In 2011 I had the chance to support Tacita Dean in the realisation process of "FILM", her Installation Work in Tate Modern's Turbine Hall.
To me it was a fantastically challenging and intense experience, as I grew up in my mothers Studio and Photographic Laboratory. Analog Film and the whole processing was a big part of my childhood as I probably did more photogrammes than drawings in between the ages of 4 to 8... I also always wanted to become a photographer when I was a kid, without getting real support of my mother in this topic, as she believed that there wouldn't be any more photographers nowadays... Well there still are and I claim being one now. (She agrees meanwhiles) So I have a pretty personal relationship to the whole subject of "FILM".
We spent hours and hours in preproduction with Tacita asking me questions about how things would have to be done technically and me answering over and over again that I had no Idea about how this specific thing might work as I have never heard of anyone trying this whole process or parts or even tiny bits. But we found solutions and we found People to answer questions and in the end it all worked out i I found myself in the Studio trying to get an Exposure Stop of 22 on a 50 ASA Black and White Stock...
